Choosing a Heater Top Material

Here at Torrey Pines Scientific, Inc®, we make heater tops for analog, digital and stirring hot plates from two different materials: solid ceramic glass and milled-flat cast aluminum. This guide will help you choose the best heater top material for your needs.

Ceramic Glass Heater Tops – Our ceramic glass heater tops are made from sheet glass cut to size and mounted into cast aluminum frames. These tops are white, very flat, pass energy quickly through the glass into the sample, and are very resistant to chemical spills. They clean easily.

Ceramic glass tops have a maximum plate surface temperature in our units of 450ºC. They heat and cool very quickly. They are designed for heating a solution in a vessel.

Milled-Flat Cast Aluminum Heater Tops – Our milled-flat, cast aluminum heater tops are made from an alloy that allows for minimum pitting when milled. They are milled-flat to within 0.01” corner-to-corner. The tops are very flat and provide even heating across the surface when compared to the ceramic glass tops as that conduct heat better. Aluminum heater tops cool more slowly, and do not tolerate aggressive chemicals very well. They will stain if certain chemicals are spilled on them.

These tops have a maximum plate surface temperature in our units of 450ºC. They are recommended for heating a solid on the heater plate surface.

Fully Programmable, Digital Hot Plates and Stirring Hot Plates

Torrey Pines Scientific EchoTherm™ programmable and digital stirring hot plates are the most advanced and easy-to-use units available.

Simple Digital Hot Plates and Stirring Hot Plates

Torrey Pines Scientific EchoTherm™ simple digital hot plates and stirring hot plates can control and display plate temperature, solution temperature, stirring speed and time.

  • EchoTherm™ HP30 and HS30: These models are designed based on years of experience in digital hot plates and stirring hot plates. Heat, stir, and time accurately with the most easy to use, fully featured hot plates available anywhere.

  • EchoTherm™ HS50 and HP50: The hot plate/stirrer (HS50) and hot plate (HP50) with 6” x 6” heater tops come with both milled-flat cast aluminum and solid ceramic heater tops.

  • EchoTherm™ HS51 and HP51: The hot plate/stirrer (HS51) and hot plate (HP51) have a 12” x 12” heater tops in both milled-flat cast aluminum or solid ceramic.

  • EchoTherm™ HS55: Stir 5 samples at the same or different speeds while heating from room temperature to 400ºC.
